Cisco
Enterprise networking, switching, security — global standard.
Y5 distribution since 2022

Overview
What this brand is._
Cisco is the default enterprise networking vendor in India for large campuses, regulated industries, and any environment that needs vendor-backed support contracts. Y5 carries the Catalyst switching line, Meraki cloud-managed APs and switches, and select security appliances. Cisco shows up on Y5's bill of materials when a customer specifically requires it — typically BFSI, government tenders, large healthcare networks, or any deployment where 24/7 TAC support is non-negotiable.
When the RFP says Cisco, the RFP gets Cisco. Y5 sources genuine Cisco gear through authorised channels with India warranty intact, and pairs it with our own deployment and managed services where appropriate.

Y5 position
Why we stock them._
Cisco shows up on Y5 BoQs in two cases: the RFP requires it (BFSI / government tenders), or the customer's risk profile genuinely demands TAC-grade vendor support. We don't push Cisco when Omada or Aruba would deliver the same outcome at a fraction of the spend — that's a disservice. When Cisco is the right call, Y5 sources through authorised channels with full India warranty and pairs the hardware with our deployment, configuration, and managed-service layer. The Channel Partner status means escalations route through Cisco's official partner programme, not grey-market intermediaries.

Engineering notes
How we spec it._
Catalyst 9300 with StackWise-480 is the workhorse for campus access; pair with Catalyst 9500 at the distribution layer for routed cores. Meraki MR46 covers most Wi-Fi 6 needs but the Wi-Fi 7 MR-series is worth the premium in greenfield builds. Meraki licensing is per-device per-year — model this into TCO comparisons explicitly. For BFSI branch SD-WAN, MX67 covers up to 200 Mbps; MX85 for larger branches. Catalyst 1200 / 1300 series brings smart-managed switching at SMB pricing for branches that need the Cisco logo without enterprise-tier features.

History
How they got here._
Cisco was founded in 1984 at Stanford, listed publicly in 1990, and became the dominant force in enterprise networking through the 1990s and 2000s. Cisco India operates major engineering centres in Bangalore and Pune (the latter is one of Cisco's largest R&D sites outside California). The Meraki acquisition in 2012 brought a cloud-managed line that now sits alongside Catalyst — the two product families share a single sales motion but distinct management planes. Y5 became a Cisco Channel Partner in 2022 to serve BFSI, healthcare, and government customers whose RFPs specify Cisco by name.
