Overview

What this brand is._

Grandstream is the go-to brand for VoIP infrastructure — IP phones, IP-PBXs, video conferencing endpoints, and IP cameras — paired with a credible SMB networking line (GWN access points and switches). Y5 deploys Grandstream when a customer is putting in a unified IP phone system or refreshing the office video-conferencing setup. The GWN line gets specified alongside the phone system for a single-vendor SMB stack.

If the project needs a phone system, Grandstream is the answer that doesn't require Cisco-tier budget. SIP-based, open standards, and the SMB-tier UCM PBX scales from 50 to 3,000 extensions.

Y5 position

Why we stock them._

Most Y5 hospitality and healthcare projects need a phone system as part of the BoQ, and Grandstream is the cleanest single-vendor answer — UCM PBX + IP phones + intercoms all from the same warranty channel. The GWN networking line is less compelling than Omada or Aruba Instant On for pure networking projects, but it's useful when a customer wants a single-vendor stack (phones + WiFi + switching) and the price savings on consolidation actually matter. Y5 also stocks GVC video bars for boardroom upgrades alongside Logitech Rally and Poly options.

What sets them apart

Key differentiators._

  • UCM6300 PBX scales to 3,000 SIP users with zero per-extension licensing
  • Phone + PBX + video + door intercom from one vendor — single warranty
  • Open-standards SIP — interoperates with Cisco, Polycom, Yealink endpoints
  • GVC video conferencing endpoints certified for Zoom / Teams / Meet
  • Per-device pricing roughly half of comparable Cisco / Avaya gear

Engineering notes

How we spec it._

UCM6308 covers up to ~1,000 SIP users with HA failover available via UCM RemoteConnect. For deployments over 1,000 endpoints, use UCM6510 (rack-mount) clustered. GRP2615 is the workhorse desk phone (10 SIP accounts, colour LCD). GVC3210 (video bar) handles boardroom 4K; GAC2570 for huddle rooms. GWN7660 ceiling APs cover ~150 client devices each at SMB density. Note: GWN cloud management is free but lacks the polish of Aruba Central or Omada — prefer GWN only when single-vendor consolidation outweighs networking UX.

History

How they got here._

Grandstream was founded in 2002 in Boston by Vincent and David Li with a singular focus: bring carrier-grade SIP / VoIP infrastructure to small and mid-sized businesses at price points that didn't require Cisco or Avaya budgets. The portfolio expanded steadily — IP phones, IP PBX (UCM series), video conferencing endpoints (GVC / GAC series), surveillance, and IP intercoms / paging. In 2020 the company added the GWN line of access points and switches to compete in SMB networking. India operations run through channel distribution; Grandstream is particularly strong in the hospitality + healthcare verticals where IP phone density is high (every guest room or nurse station needs an extension) and the UCM PBX scales to 3,000 SIP users without per-extension licensing.
