Netac

Budget SSDs and flash storage from a Chinese OEM.

Y5 distribution since 2023

Overview

What this brand is._

Netac is a Shenzhen-headquartered flash-storage OEM with a portfolio spanning consumer SSDs (2.5" SATA and M.2 NVMe), USB drives, and memory cards. The brand competes aggressively on price-per-GB and shows up frequently on BoQs where the customer wants the lowest-cost storage that's still backed by a multi-year warranty. Y5 stocks Netac as the value-tier complement to Samsung and WD for projects where storage is a line-item rather than a strategic decision.

Lowest-tier storage pricing that still ships with three-year warranty and India RMA. Useful for refurbishment projects, student-housing workstation rollouts, and any BoQ where the storage budget is squeezed.

Y5 position

Why we stock them._

Netac fills the slot where the project's storage line is a commodity refresh and the customer doesn't want to pay Samsung pricing. Student-housing workstation refurbishment, low-end POS terminal SSDs, budget retail refresh — projects where 'cheapest credible 256 GB SSD with warranty' is the spec. We don't recommend Netac for surveillance NVR storage, NAS arrays, or anything 24/7 — for those, WD or Seagate workload-class drives win. But for client-side SATA and entry NVMe, Netac is consistently the BoQ-winner.

What sets them apart

Key differentiators._

  • Aggressive pricing — N530S SSD is 30-40% under Samsung 870 EVO at same capacity
  • Three-year warranty on consumer SSDs including India RMA via distributor
  • NV7000 PCIe 4.0 NVMe ships with optional heatsink for thermal-constrained slots
  • Portable SSDs include USB-C cable + adapter — saves the line-item on the BoQ
  • Cross-shop pricing reliably available on metro online channels

Engineering notes

How we spec it._

N530S 256 GB SATA SSD for legacy desktop / POS refresh — 5400-RPM HDD upgrades especially. NV7000 NVMe for budget workstation builds (PCIe 4.0, no DRAM cache — fine for general workloads, slower than Samsung 990 PRO on heavy random write). Avoid Netac for 24/7 NAS / NVR scenarios — endurance rating (TBW) is lower than workload-class drives. RMA in India: 3-4 week turnaround via distributor — set customer expectations on this. Better used in refurbishment / cost-driven projects than for primary corporate workstation deployments.

History

How they got here._

Netac was founded in 1999 in Shenzhen and is one of the original Chinese flash-storage OEMs — actually one of the inventors of the USB flash drive (Netac holds a 1999 patent on the form factor). The company has steadily expanded from USB drives into the broader flash market: 2.5" SATA SSDs, M.2 NVMe SSDs, microSD / SD cards, and portable SSDs. India presence has grown through online retail (Amazon, Flipkart) and B2B distribution. The brand competes on price-per-GB across the budget-to-mid segments, generally undercutting SanDisk, Lexar, and Samsung on like-for-like specs by 15-30%.
