Overview
What this brand is._
Samsung's semiconductor arm produces the dominant share of enterprise NVMe SSDs, DRAM, and memory cards in the global market. Y5 stocks Samsung SSDs and memory cards for client and server applications — particularly the 870 EVO / 980 PRO / 990 PRO consumer SSDs, the PM-series enterprise SSDs, and the PRO-series microSD cards for surveillance recording. Reliability and warranty consistency make Samsung the default storage line-item on most BoQs.
Best-in-class endurance ratings, ten-year warranties on the PRO series, and India-wide RMA via Samsung India. The safe choice for any storage line on a customer bill of materials.

Y5 position
Why we stock them._
Storage is rarely the strategic decision on a BoQ — it's a line-item the customer wants to clear with confidence. Samsung delivers that confidence: the brand recognition removes objections at the procurement layer, the endurance ratings withstand auditor scrutiny on critical workloads, and the warranty story is the cleanest in the segment. Y5 specifies Samsung SSDs by default on workstation refreshes, NVR primary storage, and server NVMe slots unless cost-driven scenarios push toward WD or Netac alternatives.

What sets them apart
Key differentiators._
- Vertically integrated — Samsung manufactures NAND, controllers, DRAM in-house
- PRO-series consumer SSDs ship with 5-year warranties; PM-series with longer enterprise terms
- Industry-leading endurance ratings (DWPD / TBW) across the 990 PRO line
- Magician software for client-side monitoring and firmware updates
- India-wide RMA via Samsung's consumer service network — fastest in segment

Engineering notes
How we spec it._
990 PRO is the right call for high-write workstation workloads (video editing, large compile cycles); 870 EVO covers SATA refresh on legacy machines without re-imaging. For NVR surveillance recording, use the PM-series enterprise SSDs (PM9A3) — consumer SSDs lack the sustained-write endurance for 24/7 camera streams. PRO Plus microSD is endurance-rated for surveillance edge-recording up to 1 TB; pair with appropriate NVR retention modelling. DDR5 ECC RDIMM is required for any AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon server build.

History
How they got here._
Samsung Electronics' semiconductor division (Samsung Semiconductor) was established as a strategic pivot in 1983 and has since become the world's largest memory chip manufacturer — NAND flash, DRAM, and increasingly enterprise storage controllers. The consumer SSD line (840 / 850 / 860 / 870 / 980 / 990 series) launched in 2012 and rapidly captured the premium tier of client storage. Enterprise lines (PM-series, datacenter SSDs) followed for hyperscaler and OEM markets. Samsung India's RMA infrastructure runs through Samsung's broader consumer-electronics service network, which gives storage customers the same warranty access as appliance buyers — broader reach than any specialty storage brand.
