Overview

What this brand is._

VIGI is TP-Link's enterprise surveillance brand, distinct from the consumer Tapo line. Cameras include indoor turret, outdoor bullet, PTZ, and fisheye models, paired with VIGI NVRs and dedicated PoE+ switches. The line emphasises ONVIF compatibility, AI-assisted person and vehicle detection, and integration with the VIGI Security Manager dashboard. Y5 deploys VIGI for retail chains, multi-site offices, and BFSI branches that need genuine business-grade CCTV without jumping to Hikvision / Dahua price points.

Enterprise-grade IP CCTV at SMB-friendly pricing. ONVIF means VIGI cameras drop into existing NVRs without lock-in, and TP-Link's India warranty / RMA is consistent with the rest of the catalogue.

Y5 position

Why we stock them._

Y5 specifies VIGI on most projects where the customer's surveillance budget can't justify CP Plus' enterprise tier or jump to Hikvision but still needs more than consumer Tapo gear. The decisive factor on multi-site rollouts is the dashboard: VIGI Security Manager handles centralised viewing of cameras across 200+ stores from a single Windows VM, which retail chain customers especially appreciate. Y5 routinely pairs VIGI cameras with Omada switching for end-to-end TP-Link stacks — one vendor, one warranty, one engineering escalation path.

What sets them apart

Key differentiators._

  • ONVIF-compliant — VIGI cameras drop into third-party NVRs and vice versa
  • AI on the camera: person, vehicle, and face detection at the edge, no cloud round-trip
  • VIGI Security Manager runs on Windows / Mac — no dedicated NVR mandatory
  • PoE budget engineered for camera-fleet density (24-port switch + 32 cameras typical)
  • Same India warranty + RMA chain as parent TP-Link — single vendor relationship

Engineering notes

How we spec it._

C440 is the default 4MP indoor turret for offices and retail counters. C340 outdoor bullet has 30 m IR — sufficient for façade lighting, but for true low-light add the C540 IR variant. PTZ deployments need careful planning: VIGI C540V's 4× optical zoom is fine for narrow walkways; larger perimeters call for the C740 series at 25× zoom. Storage rule of thumb: 4 MP H.265+ at 24/7 record consumes ~10 GB/day per camera, so spec a WD Purple Pro at 10 TB per ~3 cameras for 90-day retention.

History

How they got here._

VIGI launched in 2020 as TP-Link's commercial-surveillance brand, deliberately positioned apart from the consumer Tapo line to give business buyers a separate SKU naming convention, warranty channel, and integration story. The line started with a small handful of indoor cameras and the VIGI Security Manager dashboard; by 2024 it covered turrets, bullets, PTZs, fisheyes, panoramic cameras, NVRs (4 / 8 / 16 / 32 channel), and dedicated VIGI-branded PoE+ switches. India distribution piggybacks on TP-Link's existing channel, which means VIGI products sit alongside Omada APs on the same Y5 BoQ with a single warranty story rather than two vendor relationships.
